Hype and scam. What is the difference?
I want you to imagine for a while that you are looking to buy a business. As you look through the advertisements in the paper. You come across an ad that says, “Profitable Ready Made Business it goes on to explain that it’s an ice cream van in a hot sunny area.
You decide that this is just the business for you. You find out later on, that it is an almost new Ice cream van, it comes very well stocked, and is in a very warm climate. But now you find that the area that you are restricted to is the Sahara Desert. It certainly is a warm climate, but no one lives there. So now you have a very well stocked business, but not customers. So really, you have no business.
Products you may have bought on the Internet may have ended up exactly the same. Beautiful website, great product, no customers. You would have spent time editing the site and making sure the payment buttons worked. After checking that everything worked just as it should, you sat back and waited for the sales to come in. And then what happened? Nothing. Very disappointing.
This website, you just put up is just like that ice cream van. It looks great. It even works great. Youve tested those payment buttons and they all work. But you make no sales. You have no customers.
You thought you would be making money within 24 hours. That’s what the ad that said. Well that was just hype.
So what is hype? Basically, Hype is not a total untruth. It is S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G the truth, to convince you to buy. What it comes down to is they are after your money. People use hype to convince you to use your money to buy from them. So what is the difference between hype and a scam? They both want to part you from your money. In this they are the same.
The difference is a scammer is much like a con man. The scammer uses totally dishonest means, total untruth to get you to part with your money. They often pose as something they’re not. I’m sure you have received e-mails from people posing as PayPal asking you go to the site and fill in your login details. With this information, they can fraudulently use your account your money.
Hype is often not total untruth. It just stretches the truth. So you think you are getting more than you are really getting. Any product on the Internet that promises you instant success is using hype to get you to buy. There is no such thing as instant profits.
Whether you want to build a business online or off-line, it will take time. You need to build customer trust. They need to believe that you will be there for the long haul. Most important, you need to build a customer base.
On the Internet, your new website is much like that ice cream van in the middle of the Sahara Desert. You have no customers. You don’t even have people browsing. You need to draw traffic to your new site. This is not something that happens over night. This is a long slow process that takes a lot of work.
In another article I will explain what you need to do to get people browsing your site.
